How Mega Millions Works

The 5/70 main pool, the Mega Ball, the $5 play, and the per-ticket multiplier.

The Current Matrix

A Mega Millions play is five main numbers from 1–70 plus one Mega Ball from 1–24. Each play is $5. Drawings are Tuesday and Friday. The matrix is larger than Powerball’s mains, so a 9-number wheel costs more here — that is why LotterrAI shows ticket cost next to play count.

Multiplier: Per Ticket, Not Per Drawing

From April 8, 2025 Mega Millions does not draw a Megaplier for the night. Each ticket includes a 2x–10x multiplier assigned at purchase. Older drawings still show a drawn Megaplier. On current drawing tables, LotterrAI shows Per Ticket — not a fake 2–10 stored on the drawing.

Build With the Price in View

A full 10-number wheel is hundreds of plays. At $5 each, that is a real budget. Abbreviated and balanced wheels exist so you can spread a favorite pool across more combinations without buying every one. The odds of any single valid play stay the same.
